The monitor is the primary output device of a computer system. The computer monitor resembles a television or window at which graphic information is displayed. A variety of types of monitors are in use presently, each based on technology which differs mainly in the way the image is produced on the screen. This gives rise to other considerations, such as the resolution and color of an image produced by a given type of monitor. Monitors can be large, having displays measuring 17" or more diagonally, or small, as in some |palmtop| computers where the display is a thin window only three or four inches long.
